Mom leaves disabled daughter by herself

CARYVILLE, Tenn., July 11 (UPI) -- Police say an Illinois mother who left her mentally disabled daughter outside a Tennessee bar will not be charged because her daughter is a legal adult.

Police said Tuesday Eva Cameron could not be charged with a crime for leaving her daughter, Lynn, at the Big Orange Bar in Caryville, Tenn., on June 28 and driving home because Lynn, 19, is a legal adult, CNN reported.

Lynn "didn't know her age, she didn't know her address, she didn't know her phone number and she didn't even know her name," Assistant Police Chief Stephanie Smith said.

Cameron told the Northwest Herald (Ill.) she is responsible for another disabled child and she could not take care of both of them.

Cameron signed a statement saying her daughter is now a ward of Tennessee in a meeting with Caryville police Tuesday. Lynn was taken to a hospital in Roane County, Tenn.
