LINCOLN, Neb., July 9 (UPI) -- Supporters of Rep. Ron Paul head to the Nebraska Republican convention this weekend to try to collect delegates for Paul for the party's national convention.

If Paul can get a plurality of support in Nebraska, he would qualify to have his name entered into nomination for president at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., next month, USA Today reported Monday.

Paul, a libertarian-leaning congressman from Texas, stopped spending money to compete in primaries in May, but continued to collect delegates and encourage supporters to have their voices heard at the GOP's national convention.

Mitt Romney clinched the 1,144 delegates needed for the party's nomination in late May.

USA Today said a post on The Daily Paul, a Web site that says it was inspired by the congressman, urged people to attend the Nebraska GOP meeting July 14 in Grand Island and make their voices heard and their support for Paul known.

The RNC's rule book said a presidential candidate must have a "plurality of the delegates from five or more states" to get his or her name entered for nomination at the convention.

Paul has a plurality of delegates from Iowa, Maine, Minnesota and Louisiana. Nebraska is the last state that will hold its convention for delegates.
