MIAMI, July 8 (UPI) -- Robert Reno, the brother of former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, died of Alzheimer's disease in Miami at the age of 72, his family said.

Reno had been a reporter and liberal-leaning columnist for Newsday in New York from 1968 until he retired in 2003.

Reno, an Army veteran, died at the Miami Veterans Administration hospital where he had been living for about four years. A memorial will be held later this year, his sister, Maggy Hurchalla, told The Miami Herald.

Janet Reno, who is herself battling a neurological disorder – Parkinson's disease – had no immediate comment on her brother's death.

The newspaper said Sunday Reno's writing career took aim at the elite and well-to-do. His sister, Maggy Hurchalla, said Reno was a "proud liberal Democrat" until the end.
