ISAF: 4 insurgents killed in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, July 6 (UPI) -- Combined Afghan and coalition security forces killed four insurgents in three provinces Friday, military officials said.

An International Security Assistance Force news release said combined forces killed two insurgents in Wardak province's Sayyidabad district, one insurgent in Kunar province's Darah Ye Pech district and one insurgent in Paktika province's Orgun district.

The release said the insurgents killed in Wardak province were found with materials used to make improvised-explosive devices as well as small arms and ammunition.

The ISAF also said Afghan and coalition security forces had detained several suspected insurgents Friday during a search for a Taliban IED expert in the Ghorak district of Afghanistan's Kandahar province.

The release said officials also confirmed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba leader Ammar had been killed in a June 29 airstrike in the Watahpur district of Kunar province.

Leading a network of insurgents, Ammar had directed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province, the release said. The airstrike also killed Lashkar-e-Toiba leader Khatab Shafiq and several other insurgents, the ISAF said.

Also Friday, the ISAF said, a combined force detained several suspected insurgents in the Terayzai district of Khost province during a search for a Haqqani leader who plans and coordinates attacks against the Afghan government throughout the province.

The release said two suspected insurgents were detained during a search for a Taliban bomb maker in the Khugyani district of Nangarhar province and one insurgent was detained in Ghazni province's Andar district.

The release said weapons, including grenades, IEDs and mortar rounds used to make IEDs were discovered in Afghanistan operations Friday.
