CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 1 (UPI) -- A Saudi prince who was in a 2002 drunken driving accident that resulted in the death of a Massachusetts man wants an arrest warrant against him dropped.
Prince Bader al-Saud killed Cambridge landscaper Orlando Ramos in the drunken driving accident, for which he served seven months in jail, the Boston Herald reported.
Al-Saud left the United States after being released, violating his probation. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest, which was upheld by the state Supreme Judicial Court in April 2011.
In paperwork filed in a federal court Thursday, al-Saud's lawyer argued leaving the country relieved him of the responsibility to fulfill his probation, which included alcohol treatment.
Al-lSaud's lawyer said the judge who sentenced the prince "stated on the record at the time of sentencing that the defendant shall only be required to submit to probation conditions if he remains in the United States after completing the committed portion of his sentence."
It is unclear whether al-Saud will return to the United States.
