FORT HOOD, Texas, June 29 (UPI) -- Military judge Col. Gregory Gross Friday denied a motion to delay the court-martial trial of Fort Hood, Texas, massacre suspect U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan.

The trial was originally scheduled to begin in March and is now set to start Aug. 20, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Hasan, an Army psychiatrist charged with 13 counts of murder in the November 2009 shootings, was barred from the courtroom earlier this month for violating Army grooming regulations. He was denied courtroom access again Friday after officials rejected his request to grow facial hair, the newspaper said.

Hasan was paralyzed from the chest down when a civilian police officer responded to the scene and shot him. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
