Vet launches petition to save Curry's job

PHOENIX, June 23 (UPI) -- An Iraq war veteran in Arizona said he has launched an online campaign to save "Today Show" host Ann Curry's job, which she is rumored to possibly lose.

Sgt. Stephen Crowley, 49, of Phoenix, started the petition "Keep Ann Curry on The Today Show" on Change.org because he said he appreciates her coverage of veterans' issues, The Hollywood Reporter reported Thursday.

He said he was searching for Curry's story about bullied bus monitor Karen Klein Thursday when he stumbled across stories hinting the reporter might lose her NBC "Today Show" job because of a ratings war with ABC's "Good Morning America."

"All of a sudden I saw this article about how they were getting rid of her," Crowley said. "And I thought it was a stunt or The Onion or something. Some kind of fake article."

The petition had a few hundred signatures in its first day, barely a drop compared with the 5 million viewers who tune in to the "Today Show," THR said.

Crowley said he hopes the rumors don't get Curry down.

"Because she has a lot of people behind her, who love her, who love her journalism and her style. I'd just tell her to hang in there," he said.
