SANTA ANA, Calif., June 20 (UPI) -- A California couple was arrested on charges of planting drugs in a school volunteer's car, believing she was not properly supervising their son, officials said.
Kent Easter, 38, and his wife Jill, 38, were arrested by Irvine police Tuesday for allegedly putting a bag of marijuana, Percocet and Vicodin, and a used marijuana pipe, in the car driven by a volunteer at the school their son attends in 2011, then phoning the police to report an erratic driver, a news release of the Orange County District Attorney's Office said.
Jill Easter was upset over the supervision of their son, prosecutors said.
The unnamed woman consented to a police search of her car and her home, and a check of the phone call from Easter indicated it came from a public phone in a Newport Beach, Calif., hotel. Surveillance cameras captured images of him making the call, prosecutors said.
The Easters are charged with conspiracy to procure a false arrest, false imprisonment and conspiracy to falsely report a crime, and are scheduled for a July 17 arraignment in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, Calif., the Orange County, Calif., Register reported Wednesday.
The newspaper noted Kent Easter is a member of the State Bar of California since 1998, and his wife was also admitted to the bar in 1998, but her license to practice law has since expired.
