BALTIMORE, June 20 (UPI) -- A Maryland man accused of killing another man and eating his organs has been indicted and sent to a mental hospital, lawyers said.
Alexander Kinyua, 21, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and assault Tuesday and sent to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital for a competency evaluation, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Police said Kinyua confessed to killing Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, 37, with a one-sided axe, and then eating his heart and parts of his brain.
Agyei-Kodie was a Ghanaian national who was living with Kinyua's family at the time. Kinyua's attorney, Donald Daneman, has not spoken to the press.
Kinyua -- an electrical engineering major at Morgan State University and a member of the school's ROTC program -- was known to have a violent history, The Sun reported. A police report called him a "Virginia Tech waiting to happen," following an incident in which he allegedly punched seven holes in a wall.
After the incident, campus police and administration officials monitored Kinyua for his rather public mentions of human sacrifice, ethnic cleansing and "death cults," both on Facebook and in public university forums.
