SAN DIEGO, June 19 (UPI) -- Nine male San Diego middle school students were suspended for allegedly masturbating to pornography in class.
The students were suspended from Bell Middle School in May for allegedly masturbating during English class while viewing pornography on their cellphones, KNSD, San Diego, reported.
Teacher Ed Johnson did not punish the students for their alleged behavior and continued to read at his desk, other students said.
"They weren't even trying to hide it at all," a student told the U-T San Diego. "It really made me and the other students mad that he wouldn't do anything about the things happening in the class and it was affecting our education and it was nasty, also."
There was no word on whether Johnson would be subject to disciplinary action.
"With respect to Mr. Johnson, all we can tell you is that he is employed by the district and remains assigned to Bell Middle School as of Friday," the district said in an e-mail to KNSD.
Both Johnson and the principal of Bell Middle School declined to comment.
