Child support averages $430 per month

WASHINGTON, June 19 (UPI) -- New U.S. Census Bureau statistics indicate monthly child support payments in the United States averaged $430 per month, the Bureau said Tuesday.

Data from the 2010 Census show that 59 per cent of the $41.7 billion in total payments for child support went to children under age 21, 85 per cent of the providers were male and roughly three in four child support providers had a court order or agreement for support.

The statistics were compiled from May to August 2010 by the Survey of Income and Program Participation, and reported Tuesday in a U.S. Census Bureau statement. No statistics of sampling error were provided.
