CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 19 (UPI) -- Taking a page from New York's mayor, Cambridge, Mass., Mayor Henrietta Davis proposed a ban on large sizes of sugary drinks to fight obesity.
Davis agreed Monday night to look into the idea of banning large sizes of sugary drinks at restaurants in Cambridge, WHDH-TV, Boston, reported.
"When people are served these gigantic portions of soda in bottomless cups, sometimes it's just more than people are able to resist," Davis said.
The proposal was sparked by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposal to ban the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces.
Cambridge's health committee plans to study the issue and report to the city council, WHDH said.
