DOYLESTOWN, Pa., June 18 (UPI) -- An off-duty police officer from Clifton, N.J., surrendered Sunday following a 10-hour standoff with police in Doylestown, Pa., officials said.

Authorities said Richard Klementovich, 42, who was armed with several high-powered rifles, ammunition, a bullet-proof vest, a gas mask and other tactical equipment, gave himself up shortly before midnight, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported.

The incident occurred at his estranged wife's home but the Clifton officer was the only person in the house, the newspaper said. It wasn't known what triggered the standoff, but ABC News reported Doylestown police were summoned to a "neighbor dispute."

Klementovich allegedly fired several shots at police during the standoff, Chief David Mettin of the Pennridge Regional Police Department said.

The Clifton officer was taken into custody and charged with 13 counts of criminal attempted homicide and one count of reckless endangerment, Doylestown Township Police Chief Dean Logan said.

WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, reported Klementovich engaged in a firefight with police and shot the tires and video camera out of an armored SWAT vehicle.

Authorities said one police officer was treated and released after being hit by a piece of concrete when a bullet struck the sidewalk.
