WASHINGTON, June 15 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama was interrupted by a reporter Friday as he was announcing a change in the administration's immigration -- and Obama was irked.
Obama was discussing the changes in immigration policy in which the government no longer would seek deportation of undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, provided they meet specific criteria, and would allow them to apply for work permits. The changes are effective immediately.
As Obama was making a statement from the Rose Garden, a reporter identified by CNN as Neil Munro of The Daily Caller, a conservative news Web site, tried to interrupt.
"Excuse me. … It's not time for questions, sir," Obama said. "Not while I'm speaking."
When interrupted later, Obama said, "And the answer to your question, sir -- and the next time I'd prefer you let me finish my statements before you ask that question -- is this is the right thing to do for the American people."
"I didn't ask for an argument," a visibly angry Obama said. "I'm answering your question."
When Obama finished his statement in the Rose Garden, he walked back into the White House and ignored a shouted question about out-of-work American workers.
Reporters usually shout questions to the president during a media opportunity -- but after the president finishes his statement.
