PHENIX CITY, Ala., June 14 (UPI) -- Accused Auburn University shooter Desmonte Leonard's attorney said Thursday she will seek a change of venue from Lee County, Ala.

Susan James made the announcement at the Russell County Justice Center, where she is trying another case, after Leonard heard the charges against him in circuit court in Opelika, al.com reported.

James said she will file paperwork seeking a preliminary hearing Friday.

Leonard, 22, of Montgomery turned himself in to U.S. marshals at the federal courthouse in Montgomery Tuesday. He is accused of killing three people, including former Auburn University football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips, and injuring three others during a weekend party at an apartment complex near the university.

Two other people have been arrested, police said. Gabriel Thomas, 41, was picked up Sunday and Jeremy Thomas, 18, was arrested Monday. The two Montgomery men, whose relationship was unclear, are accused of hindering authorities in the effort to find Leonard.
