FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 14 (UPI) -- A Colorado wildfire has burned nearly 50,000 acres and is only 10 percent contained, fire officials reported Thursday.

The High Park fire, centered 15 miles northwest of Fort Collins, Colo., has consumed 118 buildings since it began Saturday, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said.

An intergovernmental Web site said Thursday historic cabins owned by the U.S. Forest Service within the fire perimeter had been wrapped in fire-retardant material and have thus far not been damaged.

The Denver Post reported Thursday the American Red Cross will open a "long-term recovery center" Friday on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins, offering counseling and material help to people who have lost homes.
