GALVESTON, Texas, June 10 (UPI) -- A Texas woman warded off an intruder at her home in Galveston by shooting him with a paintball gun, police said.

Elvis Alexander, 53, was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit theft Friday after police found him in the home of Carrie King, 34, covered in yellow paint, The (Galveston) Daily News reported.

King called police Friday morning and said she was hiding from an intruder inside her home. When the responding officer arrived, he heard yelling and went inside.

"He heard her firing the paintball gun and the sound of the impacts of the paint balls," said Lt. Michael Gray, a Galveston police spokesman.

King shot Alexander four times, but he did not require medical treatment, Gray said.

Police arrested him inside King's house and took him to the Galveston County Jail.
