MIAMI, June 9 (UPI) -- The accused Miami cannibal apparently did not swallow any of the flesh he allegedly chewed from the face of a homeless man, sources told The Miami Herald.

Law enforcement sources told the newspaper an autopsy on Rudy Eugene found no human flesh in his stomach even though he was gnawing on his victim's face when he was shot to death by police.

Eugene, 31, allegedly pounced on a hapless Ronald Poppo along the side of the MacArthur Causeway and bit large chunks out of his face as horrified commuters passed by. Police arrived on the scene and shot Eugene dead.

Eugene was quickly nicknamed the "Miami Zombie" or "Causeway Cannibal" in the media and blogosphere, though it appeared Eugene didn't swallow any flesh. Bits of flesh were found on the sidewalk and stuck in the suspect's teeth, the newspaper said.

The Herald said the autopsy did turn up some undigested pills in Eugene's stomach and traces of marijuana in his system. The autopsy will likely be released several months from now once prosecutors complete their review of the case.
