Body of Tenn. killer donated to science

NEW ALBANY, Miss., June 9 (UPI) -- A Mississippi coroner said the body of accused multiple-murderer Adam Mayes was donated to science this week.

Mayes' body was delivered to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for study by students in the forensics department, Union County Medical Examiner Mark Golding said.

Mayes committed suicide in Union County last month while cornered by police who were after him for the April 27 slayings in Whiteville, Tenn., of Jo Ann Bain, 31, and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrianne.

Mayes also abducted Bain's younger daughters and was on the run for two weeks. He was placed on the FBI's "10 Most Wanted" list while at large.

The two kidnapped girls were rescued and Mayes' mother and ex-wife were arrested on charges they helped him elude arrest.

CNN said the Tennessee students would not be informed that they were working on Mayes' remains since cadavers are identified only by number.
