SANFORD, Fla., June 7 (UPI) -- The bond hearing for George Zimmerman, the man charged with killing Florida teen Trayvon Martin, has been set for June 29, officials said.
Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester revoked Zimmerman's bond last week after prosecutors said Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman, lied under oath during Zimmerman's April 20 bail hearing when she said the couple were essentially indigent.
They actually had raised at least $135,000 through a Web site they set up to support his defense days before his arrest, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.
Lester said George Zimmerman had sat silently "like a potted plant" while Zimmerman's lawyer told the judge the defendant didn't have the money to afford high bail.
Zimmerman, 28, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, 17.
Zimmerman returned to jail in Sanford Sunday after Lester revoked the $150,000 bond under which he had been released from jail in April.
