KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 6 (UPI) -- Two young children at home alone in Kansas City, Mo., Wednesday told police one of them fired a gun at an intruder, police said.
Local media reported the children were 8 and 10 years old, but it was unclear whether two boys were involved, or a boy and a girl.
KDAF-TV, Kansas City, said police were not sure whether there actually was an intruder or if the children were just playing with the gun when it discharged, but where investigating the incident.
No injuries were reported.
City police Capt. Steve Young told KCTV-TV, Kansas City, the children described a Hispanic man in the backyard. He said a single shot was fired in the 9:45 a.m. incident.
The children's parents arrived home a short time later.
KDAF-TV said police were recommending charges against at least one of the parents and KCTV-TV said Jackson County prosecutors said they were reviewing the case.
