NEWARK, N.J., June 5 (UPI) -- The child endangerment case against a New Jersey mother who allegedly took her 5-year-old daughter to a tanning booth will go to a grand jury, officials said.

Patricia Krentcil, 44, of Nutley, N.J., who has achieved notoriety with her unnaturally tanned complexion and her self-described regimen of five-day-a-week visits to a tanning salon, pleaded not guilty to second degree child endangerment charges in May, after her daughter, Anna, was treated for sunburn at school and told school officials of her visit to a tanning salon with her mother, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

New Jersey law bans children under 14 from tanning beds, and a Superior Court hearing scheduled Monday was canceled when the Essex County, N.J., Prosecutor's Office decided to refer Krentcil's case to a grand jury to decide whether to indict her, the newspaper said.
