TRENTON, N.J., June 5 (UPI) -- State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in New Jersey's primary election Tuesday, results showed.

Kyrillos will face incumbent Democrat Robert Menendez in November's general election. Menendez is seeking his second full term after first being appointed to the seat vacated by New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine.

The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Kyrillos, 52, breezed by East Brunswick inventor David Brown, Newton professor and real estate investor Bader Qarmout and solar energy panel company owner Joseph "Rudy" Rullo.

Republican New Jersey voters went overwhelmingly for Mitt Romney, who already has the GOP presidential nomination sewn up. With 31 percent of the state's precincts reporting, Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, had 82 percent to 10 percent for U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, 5 percent for former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and 3 percent for former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, the newspaper said.

New Jersey had 50 delegates at stake.
