NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff's son and future daughter-in-law are having trouble landing a New York City apartment because of their familial connections.

Andrew Madoff and Catherine Hooper are looking for an apartment in downtown Manhattan, but have not been able to get a building owner to rent to them, the New York Post reported.

A broker who has shown them apartments said the couple has tried to cover up their connection to Bernie Madoff by making appointments under Hooper's name, but when it comes time to meet the landlord the couple is immediately rejected.

Bernie Madoff is currently doing time in prison for operating a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme.

"My owners would never, ever rent to him," said the broker. "They will go through a lot of rejections."
