Father believes missing son still alive

PORTLAND, Ore., June 4 (UPI) -- An Oregon man says he believes his son, who has been missing since June 4, 2010, is still alive.

As of Monday, Kaine Horman's son Kyron has been missing for two years, The (Portland) Oregonian reported.

Kaine Horman said he believes his son, who was 7 when he disappeared, is still alive and has scheduled several media interviews about his son to keep up public awareness.

Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said Horman is doing the right thing by keeping Kyron's name in the media.

"The big challenge is the world forgets," Allen said. "The media spotlight dims. Law enforcement runs out of leads, and the world forgets but the families don't forget. That's why it's so important to keep hope alive."

Allen said there is a chance Kyron may still return home.

"Absolutely there is a chance," Allen said. "Justice Department research shows that even in most serious child abduction cases where kids are taken by strangers, in nearly 60 percent of those cases the child comes home alive."

Horman said he expects Kyron, who will turn 10 in September, to be one day counted among other children who've been found after lengthy periods of time.

"As a parent, I don't want to hear this could take 15 years for him to come, but at the same time if he comes home alive it's worth every day," he said.
