WASHINGTON, May 29 (UPI) -- U.S Vice President Joe Biden's youngest child, Ashley Biden, is getting married this weekend, a White House spokesman said Tuesday.

Press secretary Jay Carney said the vice president will hold a reception for the couple at his house in Wilmington, Del.

"As any father would, he takes this matter very seriously and looks forward to it with great happiness for his daughter and his future son-in-law," Carney told reporters at his daily briefing.

The press secretary avowed he had no details on the bride's gown, however.

USA Today reported the vice president's empty public schedule for the weekend had some conservative commentators speculating President Barack Obama had benched his running mate. William Kristol of the Weekly Standard suggested Obama may have given Biden a "time out" for beating the president to the punch in announcing support for gay marriage and a poll indicating Biden might hurt Obama's chances of being re-elected.

The newspaper said Ashley Biden, a social worker, will marry Dr. Howard Krein -- an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon based in Philadelphia -- Saturday in Wilmington.
