DETROIT, May 28 (UPI) -- One of two men held in an attack on a pregnant woman -- snatched in Warren, Mich., driven to Detroit, set on fire and shot -- is the baby's father, police said.

The two men were in custody Sunday on charges of attempted murder, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday. Additional details weren't released.

The woman, who is nine months pregnant, was snatched Saturday after dropping off her ex-boyfriend, her baby's father, at his home in Warren, police said. Officials did not release the woman's name or information about her injuries, The Detroit News reported.

"She's expected to make a recovery," Warren Police Sgt. Dave Geffert said Sunday, adding that an ultrasound indicated the baby appeared to be all right.

Geffert said the woman, 22, returned from a movie with the baby's father and left him at his house in Warren. She was approached from behind, Geffert said, and her hands, feet and eyes were bound with duct tape.

She was forced into her car and driven to Detroit, where she was doused with lighter fluid, set on fire then shot in the upper back, he said. The woman extinguished the fire out by rolling on the ground.

Her attacker or attackers left her car behind when they fled, police said. She broke free from the duct tape, drove to a gas station in Detroit and called her mother. As they drove toward Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, they hailed Royal Oak police officers, Geffert said.

One possible alleged motive involved paternity because the former boyfriend wasn't happy about the pregnancy, The Detroit News reported.

The former boyfriend, also 22, has a criminal history, including armed robbery, drug and stolen vehicle charges.

"We're pretty confident he viewed the abduction. He never called 911," Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green said.
