CHICAGO, May 27 (UPI) -- A wave of shootings in Chicago during the weekend left one person dead and around two dozen others injured, police said.

The tally of wounded included a 6-year-old girl and five people shot in two incidents on the West Side that police say could be related.

Jaleel Beasley, 19, died after he and four other males were shot while a group of bar patrons boarded a party bus in the Lawndale area around 2 a.m. CDT.

Bus driver Cash Vait said he heard about five shots and dived for cover. When he looked up, the street was chaotic. "I saw three or four guys pumping him, he was wearing a white shirt, and it had blood all over it," Vait told the Chicago Tribune

Vait said he heard a volley of shots a short distance away. The Tribune said police found an SUV that had crashed with two injured men inside suffering gunshot wounds.

Another incident in Marquette Park Saturday night sent three people, including a young girl, to the hospital. Witnesses told police two groups of people began arguing on a street corner when shots rang out. A stray bullet struck the child, who was playing in front of her nearby house.
