Calif. actor allegedly admits to killings

COSA MESA, Calif., May 26 (UPI) -- A California community theater actor allegedly has confessed to killing two friends to frame one for the second's killing, a grand jury transcript said.

Daniel Patrick Wozniak, 28, allegedly told a Costa Mesa detective, "I'm crazy, and I did it," the transcript showed, the Los Angeles Times reported.

He is accused of luring Samuel Herr, 26, to the Liberty Theater at the Los Alamitos Army Airfield and shooting him twice in the head, the Times said. Police say he later beheaded Herr and dumped his head and hands at a nature center in Long Beach.

Wozniak is accused of then using Herr's cellphone to lure one of Herr's friends, Juri "Julie" Kibuishi, 23, with text messages to an apartment where he shot her.

The transcripts said Wozniak told police he knew Herr had $50,000 in a savings account from his combat service in Afghanistan, and the suspect allegedly planned to withdraw the money in $400 increments, the Times reported.

Wozniak was arrested at his own bachelor party just days after the killings.

The grand jury has indicted Wozniak, next expected in court Aug. 24, on charges of murder. Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty.
