BOSTON, May 25 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., urged Harvard University to correct federal records that describe his Democratic challenger as an American Indian.

The Boston Globe reported Thursday Harvard, in at least six diversity reports, said it had a American Indian on the law school faculty. That appears to be based on statements by Elizabeth Warren that she believes she has Indian ancestry.

Warren has no connection to any recognized Indian tribe and does not appear to fit the federal definition.

"She falsely described herself as a minority and some of the schools where she worked relied on that information to misrepresent the diversity of their faculty," Brown said in a statement, urging Harvard to "correct the record with the relevant federal agencies."

"Scott Brown wants to hammer on my family and I think what matters to the people of Massachusetts is how they've been hurt by his votes," she said.

Brown counterattacked, the Globe said, saying Warren was making "a wild and baseless charge" of an attack on her family.
