HAMDEN, Conn., May 23 (UPI) -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney holds a 47 percent to 41 percent lead over President Obama in Florida, a new Quinnipiac poll indicated.

Sixty-three percent of voters asked said Obama's support of same-sex marriage won't affect their vote, results of the Hamden, Conn.-based Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found.

Another 25 percent of voters, mainly those identifying themselves as independent in the southern battleground state said Obama's support of gay marriage makes them less likely to support his candidacy.

Registered voters in Florida, 52 percent to 44 percent, that Obama does not deserve a second term and a majority, 52 percent to 44 percent, disapproved of the job he's doing.

Floridians said adding home state U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio to the GOP ticket would give the Romney-Rubio team a 49 percent to 41 percent edge over Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

Florida voters said they oppose same-sex marriage 50 percent to 40 percent, results indicated. Men oppose same-sex marriage 55 percent to 35 percent, while women are more closely divided, 44 percent to 46 percent. Same-sex unions are banned in Florida's Constitution.

Results are based on telephone interviews with 1,722 registered voters May 15-21. The margin of error is 2.4 percentage points.
