PHOENIX, May 23 (UPI) -- Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said Wednesday he had received information confirming Hawaii has a birth certificate for President Barack Obama.
Bennett said in a statement he had received the confirmation he needed to put Obama on the ballot in Arizona in November, CNN reported.
"Late yesterday, our office received the 'verification in-lieu of certified copy' from officials within the Hawaii Department of Health that we requested in March," Bennett said in the statement. "They have officially confirmed that the information in the copy of the certificate of live birth for the president matches the original record in their files."
Bennett had said he might refuse to include Obama on the November ballot unless Hawaii provided the confirmation.
Bennett, co-chairman of presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney's Arizona campaign, said he had sought the information at the request of his constituents.
"At the request of numerous constituents, I merely asked Hawaiian officials to verify the information contained within President Obama's original birth certificate," Bennett said in the statement. "They have complied with the request and I consider the matter closed."
