CHERRY HILL, N.J., May 18 (UPI) -- A woman who backed into and killed a 92-year-old neighbor in a South Jersey senior citizens complex may have hit the accelerator by mistake, police said.
Investigators said Shirley Braverman, 82, was backing out of a parking space at Raymond and Gertrude R. Saltzman House in Cherry Hill Thursday when she hit Rose Weber, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Lt. Sean Redmond said Braverman apparently "stepped on the gas instead of the brake." Weber, who used a walker, got stuck beneath the car and was still trapped there when it came to rest.
David Ross, chief executive officer of the Jewish Senior Housing and Healthcare Service, said Weber had lived in the complex for many years.
"The other residents loved her," Ross said. "She was a key member of the community."
He said social workers were at the complex for residents who needed counseling.
