TACOMA, Wash., May 16 (UPI) -- Jurors returned a guilty verdict Wednesday in the voyeurism trial of Steve Powell, father-in-law of missing Utah woman Susan Powell, sources said.
Powell was convicted of 14 counts of voyeurism, in videotaping the activities of two young neighbors in the bathroom of their own home in 2006, when the girls were 9 and 8 years old. The jurors spent 6 1/2 hours, over two days, deliberating the case in Pierce County, Wash., Court, and returned a unanimous verdict, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday.
Judge Ronald E. Culpepper will sentence Powell June 15. If the maximum penalty of five years for each conviction is applied, Powell could face 70 years in prison, the newspaper said.
Powell is the father-in-law of Susan Powell, who disappeared from her Utah home in 2009. Police considered her husband, Josh, as a person of interest in the disappearance. Josh Powell killed himself and his two sons after setting their Graham, Wash., home on fire in February 2012.
