PRINCETON, N.J., May 15 (UPI) -- Democrats say they're happier with U.S. President Obama than Republicans are with presumptive party nominee Mitt Romney, Gallup reported.

Fifty-nine percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they were satisfied with Romney as their party's nominee, while 36 percent said they would prefer another candidate, results of a Gallup/USA Today poll indicated Monday.

Meanwhile, eight in 10 Democrats said they are satisfied with Obama as their party's nominee, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

Gallup said the results partially reflect the competitive Republican primary that resolved itself only in early April, while incumbent Obama faced no significant primary competition.

Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,012 adults conducted Thursday through Sunday. The margin of error is 4 percentage points. For results based on the sample of 463 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, the margin of error is 6 percentage points. Results based on the total of 483 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents have a margin of error of 6 percentage points.
