Judge seals band account of Ind. collapse

INDIANAPOLIS, May 9 (UPI) -- A state judge ruled Wednesday that a band's account of the events leading up to the Aug. 13 rigging collapse at the Indiana State Fair will stay sealed for now.

The collapse killed seven people and injured nearly 60, and some of the victims are suing the fair and others who planned the Sugarland concert.

The Indianapolis Star reported a part of singer Jennifer Nettles' deposition transcript has been released by an attorney for some of the victims, but Marion County Superior Court Judge Theodore Sosin said he is denying the lawyer's request for a full release.

The judge said he would decide next week on what the attorneys can make public, and is expected to set a trial date.

An attorney for several victims, Kenneth Allen, had filed a motion asking Sosin to limit what the band could say, contending the band was trying to make itself look good.

He said a spokesman for the band has issued statements that are inaccurate and that attorneys for the victims are then forced to respond. He accused the band of trying to "spin" the story to make Sugarland look good.
