CHARLESTON, W.Va., May 9 (UPI) -- A convicted felon received more than 40 percent of the vote against President Obama on the Democratic ballot in West Virginia, unofficial results indicated.
Keith Russell Judd, serving time in the Federal Correctional Institution-Texarkana, captured about 42 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary, tallying 51,033 votes to Obama's 69,340 votes, unofficial returns filed with the Secretary of State's office indicated.
Judd is serving a 17 1/2-year sentence for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999, Politico reported Wednesday. His expected release date is June 24, 2013.
To get on the ballot in West Virginia, Judd paid a $2,500 filing fee and sent a notarized certification of announcement, the Washington publication reported.
Judd's resume on Votesmart.org indicated he's run for president in every election since 1996. Politico said he finished third in the 2008 Idaho Democratic primary with 734 votes, or 1.7 percent.
During the 2008 Democratic primary, Obama lost to Hillary Clinton. In the general election, Republican presidential candidate John McCain bested Obama in the Mountain State.
