PONTIAC, Mich., May 8 (UPI) -- A Detroit-area prostitute was sentenced to time served Tuesday for supplying a client who later died of a heart attack with heroin.

Natasha Vanwasshenova, 28, of Lincoln Park appeared in an Oakland County courtroom in shackles for the hearing, the Detroit Free Press reported. She apologized to the family of the man, 38, and to her own family for her actions.

Vanwasshenova told police the man died while they were having sex at his Rocheter home. She admitted giving him about $80 worth of heroin.

The cause of death was determined to be a drug overdose after an initial autopsy, and the prostitute could have received a life sentence for supplying drugs that caused death. The medical examiner took another look at the case after a defense cardiologist said the man died of a heart attack and changed the cause of death.

The charge was reduced to supplying drugs. Vanwasshenova was expected to be released later Tuesday.
