SACRAMENTO, May 6 (UPI) -- Reports say two Americans arrested and imprisoned in 2009 for hiking near the Iran-Iraq border were married in California.

Shane Bauer proposed to Sarah Shourd while the two of them were detained in Iran's Evin Prison along with their friend Josh Fattal. He wove together a ring to give her, which she showed off last year on "Good Morning America."

Bauer and Shourd were married Saturday in an undisclosed location in California, ABC News reported.

Shourd, Bauer and Fattal were arrested and accused of espionage in 2009. They denied the charges, telling authorities they may have accidentally crossed the border into Iran while hiking Iraq's scenic north.

Shourd was released early in September 2010 after 400 days of imprisonment for humanitarian reasons so she could be treated for a lump in her breast.

Bauer and Fattal were sentenced to eight years in prison, but were released eight months ago after having served more than two years.
