John Edwards' wife discussed at trial

GREENSBORO, N.C., May 2 (UPI) -- An ex-campaign staffer for John Edwards testified at Edwards' federal trial Wednesday the former U.S. presidential candidate's wife suspected he was unfaithful.

Christina Reynolds told the court Elizabeth Edwards, who died of cancer in December 2010, invited her to her Orange County, N.C., home in 2007 to reveal her suspicions about the former U.S. senator's relationship with Rielle Hunter, The (Raleigh) News & Observer reported.

Most of the testimony Wednesday came from staffers who either worked on John Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign or were his aides prior to the campaign.

Josh Brumberger, an aide who traveled and campaigned with John Edwards in 2005 and 2006, testified he was concerned about Hunter's presence during the campaign. He said he was troubled by what he found on her personal Web site.

"Specifically, there was a lot of sex, drugs and rock and roll and a lot of astrology," Brumberger said. "I'm pretty certain I told Mr. Edwards that Ms. Hunter looked a little nutty. I believe he agreed."

John Edwards is on trial for six felony counts, including four counts of collecting illegal campaign contributions, one count of making false statements and one count of conspiracy. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
