Houston baby found dead in refrigerator

HOUSTON, May 2 (UPI) -- Houston police were investigating the death of a 6-month-old boy they found in a refrigerator Wednesday after the boy's father called, threatening suicide.

Investigators said when they responded to the call, no one opened the door, so they broke into the apartment unit and found the father collapsed on the floor, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The man was incoherent and told police he killed his son. Police subdued the man and took him to a hospital when he became violent.

The boy, whose name was not reported, was dead in the refrigerator, wrapped in a blanket. Houston Police Department Homicide Sgt. Ora Chandler said the baby was likely in the refrigerator since at least Tuesday night.

The child's mother had been moved out of the apartment about a month ago to help take care of a sick relative in Clear Lake, Chandler said. She had been scheduled to come back to the Houston apartment Wednesday.

The family members' names were not reported.
