NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- Cab drivers offered donations to the Nunez family in the wake of the tragic car accident that killed seven of their relatives in New York, police said.

On the way to a family gathering Sunday, the speeding SUV carrying three generations of the Nunez family struck a center divider on the Bronx River Parkway and ricocheted across two lanes of traffic before vaulting off an overpass. The New York Daily News reported the car fell 60 feet into the Bronx Zoo, killing all passengers on impact.

The accident took the lives of Jacobo Nunez, 84; his wife Ana Julia, 80; their two daughters, Maria Nunez, 39, and Maria Nunez-Gonzalez, 45; Maria Nunez's daughters Niely, 7, and Marly, 3; and Maria Nunez-Gonzalez's daughter Jocelyn, 10.

Nunez-Gonzalez's husband, Juan Gonzalez, is a livery cab driver. Elegance Car Service stepped up and made the first donation of $1,000 to the family, with other car companies raising money to follow suit. The estimated cost of burying seven people is at least $100,000.

"The family is destroyed right now," Gonzalez told the New York Post. "We lost three generations."

Gonzalez says the bodies of Jacobo Nunez and Ana Julia need to be sent to the Dominican Republic for burial.
