Accused shooter pleads not guilty

OAKLAND, Calif., May 1 (UPI) -- A man on trial for allegedly shooting seven people at Oikos University in Oakland, Calif., pleaded not guilty to several special circumstance murder charges.

One Goh, 43, pleaded not guilty Monday, through a Korean interpreter, to several special circumstance murder charges which would make him eligible for the death penalty.

Goh is accused of shooting Judith Seymore, 53, Lydia Sim, 21, Sonam Choedon, 33; Grace Kim, 23; Doris Chibuko, 40; Tshering Rinzing Bhutia, 38, and Kathleen Ping, 24.

He has admitted to bringing a .45-caliber handgun to the school along with four loaded magazines, the Oakland Tribune reported.

Police say Goh kidnapped a receptionist, took her into a classroom and shot several people, before shooting the receptionist. He then took one of the victims' car keys and drove to a Safeway in Almeda to use the phone. He called a relative to tell them what happened, and a store clerk overhearing the call notified store security, which detained Goh and called the police, the Tribune said.

Goh's deputy public defender David Klaus said last month Goh was "extremely remorseful and overcome with sadness," even refusing to eat for three weeks.

Police say Goh was upset because Oikos University would not refund his tuition after he dropped out of school at the beginning of the school year.
