PERDIDO BEACH, Ala., April 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued six people Sunday after their boat sank off the coast of Alabama.

The five adults and a 13-year-old boy were plucked from the water about 8 miles south of Perdido Beach, WKRG-TV, Mobile, reported.

The owner of the 32-foot boat alerted the Coast Guard the boat was taking on water about 1:15 p.m. and the rescuers spotted the boaters in the water after one of them fired a distress flare.

All six were wearing life jackets.

They were ferried to a Coast Guard station.
