Wife charged in death of husband

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 25 (UPI) -- The mistress of a slain wealthy Florida man testified his wife told her that if she couldn't have him, "no one will."

The testimony from Rebecca A. Starr Bliss came Tuesday in the White Plains, N.Y., trial of Narcy Novack, 55.

She is charged with her brother, Cristobal Veliz, 58, with hiring hit men to kill her husband, Ben Novack Jr., and his mother, The Miami Herald reported.

Bliss, who had worked as a prostitute, adult porn star and stripper, testified Narcy Novack told her in a phone call seven months before Novack was bludgeoned to death, "If I can't have him, no one will."

Bliss, 40, had agreed to stop working as a prostitute, and Ben Novack promised to divorce his wife, the Herald said.

Ben Novack Jr., the son of Ben Novack Sr., who built Miami Beach's Fontainebleau hotel, had been staying at a Hilton hotel in Rye Brook, N.Y., with his wife in July 2009 when he was killed. Two men whom Narcy Novack let enter their room bound and beat Novack Jr. with a hand-held weight, authorities allege.

Novack Jr.'s 86-year-old mother, Bernice Novack, was killed outside her Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home in April 2009.

He and his mother were heirs to the hotel tycoon's fortune, the Herald said.

Prosecutors say Narcy Novack feared her husband would divorce her, leaving her with only a $65,000 settlement under a 1991 pre-nuptial agreement.
