Unsolved murders prompt $100 million suit

DETROIT, April 24 (UPI) -- The mother of a girl believed to be a victim of a 1970s child killer in Oakland County, Mich. has filed a $100 million federal lawsuit.

The suit filed in Detroit on behalf of Deborah Jarvis charges that investigators are hindering relatives' efforts to identify the murderer, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.

It accuses the Oakland County prosecutor, sheriff and Michigan State Police investigators of withholding information about the 35-year-old case.

Jarvis' daughter Kristine Mihelich was among four children abducted in Oakland County in 1976 and 1977.

The body of the 10-year-old was found near a 7-Eleven 19 days after she disappeared.

Jarvis' lawsuit asks U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood to order the defendants to turn their files over to the U.S. Department of Justice for an investigation, the Detroit Free Press reported.

"We want the Justice Department to take up the investigation because we think something is rotten in the state of Denmark north of 8 Mile Road," said Jarvis' attorney Paul Hughes.
