NEW YORK, April 24 (UPI) -- A New York bus driver has been charged with unlawful imprisonment for allegedly refusing to let his ex-girlfriend off of an otherwise empty bus, police say.
Michael Luca, 29, allegedly held his ex-girlfriend prisoner inside the Bronx express bus Sunday until police caught up with him around 8:45 p.m., the New York Daily News reported. The woman's parents called the police fearing for her safety after she boarded the bus to resolve a dispute with Luca. After he allegedly refused to cooperate with police orders to release the woman, he was arrested.
Luca was charged with unlawful imprisonment, obstructing government administration and resisting arrest. The woman was taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
