WASHINGTON, April 23 (UPI) -- All four military branches met or exceeded their recruiting goals six months into fiscal year 2012, the Department of Defense said Monday.

The Army reported 27,701 recruits, exceeding its goal of 27,550, the Pentagon said in a release.

The Navy met its goal of 15,151 recruits. The Marine Corps also achieved 100 percent of its goal of 10,625 recruits as did the Air Force, which had a goal of 14,353 recruits.

The Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force also showed strong retention through the sixth month of fiscal 2012, Pentagon officials said.

Officials said five of the six reserve components met or exceeded their recruitment goals for fiscal 2012 through March, the exception was the Army National Guard, which reached 95 percent of its goal.

The reserve components were on target to achieve their fiscal-year attrition goals as well, the Pentagon said.
