3 Texans gave most to American Crossroads

WASHINGTON, April 23 (UPI) -- Three Texans donated more than half of the money the conservative super PAC American Crossroads has received, the Center for Public Integrity said.

Bob Perry, Harold Simmons and Robert Rowling combined for $30.5 million of the $56 million in contributions to the super PAC, an independent-expenditure-only committee that cannot contribute directly to candidate campaigns or parties, The Hill reported.

Perry and Simmons had provided most of the money behind the controversial Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign that attacked Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., over his Vietnam record during his 2004 presidential campaign. Rowling was a fundraising bundler for fellow Texan George W. Bush in Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential election wins.
