Secret Service: Nugent 'issue' closed

WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Secret Service said Thursday questions raised in remarks by Ted Nugent have been "resolved" after a meeting with the heavy metal rocker.

The conservative rock guitarist and spokesman for the National Rifle Association -- in a video posted by the NRA on YouTube -- said last weekend, "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Nugent, 63, who has endorsed Mitt Romney for president, said administration officials including Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder are "criminals." He said the government has been "wiping its ass with the Constitution" and called on voters to "ride into that battlefield and chop (Democrats') heads off in November."

The NRA has since taken down the video.

Secret Service agent Brian Leary told CNN agents met with Nugent Thursday.

"The issue has been resolved," and the agency "does not anticipate any further action," Leary said.

In a statement, Nugent -- who was in Ardmore, Okla., for a performance -- said the session was a "good, solid, professional meeting concluding that I have never made any threats of violence towards anyone."

In a posting on his Web site Thursday, Nugent said, "I spotlighted cockroaches and rallied those who care to stomp 'em out at the voting booth in November, as is my duty as an American," The Washington Post reported.

"Metaphors needn't be explained to educated people," he wrote.
